Surgical Counsellor

Prism Eye Institute (PEI) has been serving the communities of North York, Brampton, Oakville/Mississauga and surrounding areas for over 50 years.

In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism) and the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada.

In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually.

PEI is an internationally renowned institute with 5 facilities and 2 surgical centres, serving over 200,000 patients and perform 10,000 surgeries each year. Prism is a centre of excellence providing a full spectrum of eye care and recognized for handling some of the most complex eye diseases in the world.

Tasks:

  • Counselling patients with respect to diagnostic testing and cataract lens options, rationale, function and costs.
  • Counselling plastics patients on procedure options, surgical process and recovery.
  • Accepting referrals from various channels and booking the referrals according to Prism and/or doctor specific protocols.
  • Assisting with procedure room set up and prepping the patients on surgery day.
  • Ensuring all patients are booked accurately with the appropriate and accompanying testing, pre and post-operative appointments and surgery dates.
  • Ensuring correct surgical charting, ordering of special devices/instruments and appropriate resources.
  • Preparing paperwork including consents, surgical calculations, lens orders, surgical supplies and instructions for patients.
  • Answering both the plastics and cataract surgery emails and telephone inquiries.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years administrative experience in health care and/or medical or cosmetic environment.
  • Medical or Health Related Diploma/Degree is considered an asset.
  • Experience using software and computers, specifically EMR systems.
  • Highly independent, excellent presentation, high quality of customer service.
  • Flourishing in fast-paced environments.
  • An ability to adapt quickly to changes.
  • Resourcefulness and a strong attention to detail.
