Financial Analyst

Prism Eye Institute (PEI) has been serving the communities of North York, Brampton, Oakville/Mississauga and surrounding areas for over 50 years. In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism) and the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada. In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually. PEI is an internationally renowned institute with 5 facilities and 2 surgical centres, serving over 200,000 patients and perform 10,000 surgeries each year. Prism is a centre of excellence providing a full spectrum of eye care and recognized for handling some of the most complex eye diseases in the world.

The Financial Analyst supports the Finance department and reports to the Director of Finance to perform various professional accounting activities.

Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Assist with preparation and processing of biweekly payroll for various entities
  • Responsible for keeping payroll system up to date – assisting with setup of new employees, terminations, ROE generation, changes to employment, etc.
  • Coordinate with payroll service provider
  • Preparation of periodic and ad-hoc payroll related reports as required.

Month-end

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries
  • Record monthly payroll entries based on employee groupings
  • Record monthly accounting entries for various entities within the organization
  • Record monthly accrual and capital asset entries
  • Prepare month end reconciliation schedules for balance sheet accounts.
  • Provide month end package to Director of Finance for review

Other

  • Document business transactions and processes
  • Perform variance analysis for specific general ledger accounts
  • Act as a backup for Senior Financial Analyst when required
  • Provide support with year end review engagements as required
  • Performing other accounting duties and supporting other staff as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • CPA or CPA student is asset
  • University Degree in Finance, Business Administration or equivalent program
  • Applications: working knowledge of Quickbooks Enterprise, experience with ADP Workforce Now or other payroll service provider, Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (VLookups, Pivot Tables)
  • Understanding and application of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises)
  • Payroll experience
  • Ability to prepare and review month end reconciliations
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Self-reliant with the ability to work independently
  • Must be bondable and pass a background check
  • Attendance to regular hours of work in a reliable and punctual manner

Level of Authority

Work will be performed independently following established policies and procedures. The role will be reporting to the Director of Finance.

Work Environment

Fast paced environment with deadline requirements. Month end to be prepared in a timely manner in order to keep up with the reporting demands of a growing company. This role would be a hybrid work from home and in-office role with the office being in Brampton.
