Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist

Prism Eye Institute (PEI) has been serving the communities of North York, Brampton, Oakville/Mississauga and surrounding areas for over 50 years.

In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism) and the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada.

In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually.

Prism Eye Institute (PEI – a partner of Vision Group) is Canada’s largest Ophthalmology clinic with 5 clinics across the Greater Toronto Area. Prism currently has an exciting opportunity for a COMT to join the team. The ideal candidate will be accountable for providing community concierge services to enhance our specialty, primarily in our Cataract and Refractive Services but also in the areas of Premium dry eye and cosmetic services. The incumbent will be an individual who is flexible and has a strong entrepreneurial spirit and welcomes the opportunity for this role to evolve.

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Prism Toronto division of the Prism Eye Institute, the COMT will be accountable for the following elements:

Tasks at a glance:

Community Outreach and Referring Network

  • You will lead communications with the new and existing referring network and work on educating and training the network on programs and services we offer
  • Lead and develop our cataract market
  • In conjunction with the Manager Director of the Prism Toronto Division of the Prism Eye Institute, manage operational costs as they relate to Cataract and Refractive Programs
  • Assist and support marketing initiatives and CE events
  • Identify areas of improvement both quality and services, and collaborate with department heads to identify new opportunities.
  • Manage and provide feedback on Patient and Client reviews in order to improve quality of service as an organisation
  • All duties as assigned

Cataract Program

  • Provide accurate information to patients regarding surgery, pricing, and scheduling.
  • Manage and address patient questions accurately, concisely and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with patients’ needs by consulting, reassuring and scheduling follow-ups.
  • Present all treatment options to prospective patients with sound knowledge of our services
  • Work with our in-house MDs and ODs to improve the quality of service and options we offer to our Patients and referring network
  • Knowledge in dry eye management skills

Education and Experience

  • At least 2+ years in the ophthalmology space
  • COMT (Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist) degree or equivalent an asset
  • Background in customer service preferred in a relevant industry such as cosmetics, retail, banking, insurance, travel sales, restaurants, etc.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills including but not limited to excel, powerpoint, work, access, adobe acrobat, EMR systems
  • Ability to create and design reports, literature, brochures, info sheets as assigned.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Thrive in fast-paced environment
  • Proficient multi-tasker and self-disciplined
  • Must be a resourceful problem solver, excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Excels at process development
  • The ability to travel between sites and flexible working hours
