Gary Yau MD FRCSC completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario and Ophthalmology residency from Queen’s University, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed a fellowship in medical retina and clinical trial research at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Yau is devoted to providing the best care possible; care which is compassionate, patient-centered and evidence-based. He also has a keen interest in advancing patient care through clinical research. He has delivered podium presentations in national and international meetings, and been the recipient of multiple research awards. This includes being recognized as one of the top 5 resident ophthalmic researchers in Canada twice by the Novartis Vision Fund, research awards from the Canadian Glaucoma Society and Canadian Ophthalmological Society, as well as being honoured to present one of the 10 best papers in posterior segment disease at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

In addition, he is actively involved in education, having recently contributed 5 chapters in the Handbook of Vitreo-Retinal Disorder Management, published in 2015. Dr. Yau is also highly committed to community service both locally and abroad. He was awarded the Ontario Volunteer Service Medal by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, and has been involved in medical missions work in Northern Ontario and South America.

He is excited to be a member of the distinguished team at North Toronto Eye Clinic, to serve the growing eye care needs of the community where he was raised. As an Eye Physician and Surgeon, he has the expertise to manage a comprehensive range of ocular conditions, with a particular focus on medical retina, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal artery and vein occlusions and peripheral retinal disease. Dr. Yau is a refractive cataract surgeon at North Toronto Eye Surgical Centre out of Queensway Health Centre. He speaks English and Cantonese.
